Shipping & Society Always Together 2019-2021
The social support work that the Greek shipping community has traditionally performed on a collective basis was reallocated from the Union of Greek Shipowners to the Greek Shipowners’ Social Welfare Company SYN-ENOSIS.
SYN-ENOSIS contributes to the upgrade of the infrastructure and technological equipment of the Merchant Marine Academies effectively supporting maritime education with the means to improve the standards of cadet training.
Currently the following actions are implemented:

Social Welfare Actions 2012-2015
Members of the Greek Shipowners’ community have been exclusively funding the social welfare and solidarity programme since 2012. From this time, it has been implemented with a view to becoming an essential component in preserving social cohesion and providing an effective platform of support for thousands of fellow citizens in need and many important organizations across the country.
Additionally, important initiatives have been undertaken to repair and improve the facilities of Merchant Marine Academies and to support maritime education in general.
The renovation projects that have been completed so far concern the Merchant Marine Officers Training Center (KESEN) as well as the Merchant Marine Academies (AEN) of Syros, Hydra, Chios and Macedonia. Also, mechanical equipment was donated to the Merchant Marine Academy of Macedonia by the MAN DIESEL AND TURBO HELLAS with the support of the Union of Greek Shipowners . Furthermore, donations were granted to the Panhellenic Association of Merchant Marine Engineers (PEMEN) and to the Panhellenic Association of Merchant Marine Masters of Ship (PEPEN).
More specifically, in the period 2012-2015, the following projects were completed:
- 2012 - 2013 - 2014 - 2015 KESEN: full-scale repair and renovation of the entire building
- 2013 MMA of Crete: donation of technological equipment and educational material
- 2013 MMA of Ionian islands: donation of books for expanding the school library
- 2013 PEMEN: donation of an engine room simulator
- 2013 - 2014 - 2015 MMA of Syros: full-scale repair and renovation of facilities and equipment maintenance
- 2014 - 2015 MMA of Hydra: full-scale repair and renovation of facilities, provision of technological equipment and donation of a bridge navigation simulator
- 2014 - 2015 PEPEN: donation of a bridge navigation simulator
- 2014 - 2015 MMA of Chios: repair of interior and exterior areas
- 2014 - 2015 MMA of Macedonia: provision of heating
- 2015 MMA of Epirus: provision of heating
- 2015 - 2016 MMA of Macedonia: repair and renovation of facilities
