The social support work that the Greek shipping community has traditionally performed on a collective basis was reallocated from the Union of Greek Shipowners to the Greek Shipowners’ Social Welfare Company SYN-ENOSIS.
SYN-ENOSIS supports organizations devoted in addressing the needs for vulnerable social groups within Attica and beyond by providing special equipment, covering heating needs and other selected actions. The following beneficiaries have been included in these actions:

Members of the Greek Shipowners’ community have been exclusively funding the social welfare and solidarity programme since 2012. From this time, it has been implemented with a view to becoming an essential component in preserving social cohesion and providing an effective platform of support for thousands of fellow citizens in need and many important organizations across the country.

The Greek Shipping social welfare programme supports centers providing care and assistance to vulnerable groups in society that have been adversely affected by the severe economic crisis, paying particular attention to families that have suffered from the crisis, women, children and people with disabilities living in deprived conditions.
The support programme for social welfare organizations has targeted foundations, social services, health clinics and centers for the protection of infants, children, adolescents, disabled and the elderly. Such organizations have been performing a valuable service for many years and require additional support in the midst of the financial crisis, to continue offering protection and assistance to the most vulnerable groups in society.
Thus a series of actions were implemented to help cover basic monthly operational needs. The organizations were supported through the provision of heating oil, basic monthly supplies such as food and personal hygiene items as well as infrastructure upgrade works or the provision or necessary equipment according to requirements.
